North London giants Arsenal could be set for another raid on German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund following reports that the Gunners are strongly interested in one of their players.
According to popular German newspaper Bild, Arsenal are keen on a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl ahead of the January transfer window scheduled to start in few weeks time.
It was revealed that the Gunners’ head of recruitment Sven Mslintat is the man spearheading the bid for Weigl to move to North London.
Mslintat was formerly with Borussia Dortmund before he joined Arsenal last year.
Weigl came close to being a Premier League player in the summer with a reported £68m transfer bid from Premier League leaders Manchester City but a move to the English champions failed to happen in the end.
Arsenal have formed the habit of raiding Dortmund for players since Sven Mslintat joined the club.
The Gunners broke their transfer record to sign Gabonese international striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Dortmund during the penultimate transfer window in January.
Arsenal were said to have paid around £57m for his services.
They returned to the Bundesliga leaders to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papasthathopoulos for a fee believed to be around £17m in the summer.
