Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in a move for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas when the January transfer window reopens in the next few weeks.
According to the publication from Italian news outlet Corriere Dello Sport via the Daily Star, Greek international centre-back Manolas has a lower price tag in comparison with the other transfer targets linked with a move to Old Trafford in the New Year.
It was revealed that the 27-year-old Italian Serie A star has a release clause of £31.5m in his current AS Roma contract.
Kostas Manolas has emerged as an integral part of the Roma team since he signed for the Italian capital club in the summer of 2014.
The centre-back joined the Champions League campaigners from Greek top flight side Olympiacos.
He has made over 180 appearances for AS Roma in all competitions.
Portuguese tactician Mourinho is desperate to sign at least a new centre-back to boost his squad ahead of the second half of the season.
Manchester United have struggled defensively since the start of the season thereby prompting his quest for a new defender when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
He had requested for a new centre-back in the summer but he didn’t get his wish.
