North London giants Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on a possible move for highly-rated Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl ahead of the upcoming transfer window scheduled to start as from the 1st of January.
The 23-year-old has endured limited game time at Borussia Dortmund in the new season and that has led to talks of a move away from the German Bundesliga giants.
According to the report from football. london, Weigl could be about to swap Germany for the Premier League due to the interest of Arsenal.
The Gunners’ head of recruitment Sven Mslintat has identified the German as a possible midfield reinforcement for the team ahead of the second half of the season.
Julian Weigl endured an injury-disrupted per-season and he has seen limited playing action as a result.
The summer arrivals of Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney have also impacted on his playing time at Borussia Dortmund in the new campaign.
This is in stark contrast to last season when he made 33 appearances for the Champions League campaigners.
Arsenal are in need of midfield reinforcements due to the potential exits of the midfield duo of Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed ElNeny.
Ramsey has less than a year left on his current contract, while El Neny is out of favour with Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
