North London giants Arsenal will activate the release clause in the contract of Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals during the winter transfer window in the New Year.
This is according to the publication from popular English news outlet The Sun.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has identified the 22-year-old as his primary transfer target.
Pablo Fornals has a release clause of £17.9m in his current contract with the Yellow Submarines and the Gunners are ready to pay the said amount to secure his signing.
It was further revealed that midfielder Mohamed Elneny is surplus to requirements at Arsenal and that the Egyptian international star has been transfer-listed.
The 26-year-old is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium with fellow Premier League side Leicester City set to be interested in the former FC Basel midfielder.
The Foxes are long-term admirers of the player who’s likely to be sold for around £15m.
Funds from his sale would be used to fund the transfer of Pablo Fornals.
The two-cap Spanish international could follow in the footsteps of former Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla if he were to sign for the Gunners.
Ex-Spanish international Cazorla joined Arsenal in 2012 after playing for the Spanish duo of Malaga and Villareal.
