Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified an Italian Serie A star as his top defensive target ahead of the upcoming transfer window in the New Year.
According to the publication from trusted English transfer news platform Daily Express, the Portuguese tactician has made Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar his no. 1 defensive target when the transfer window reopens in January.
Mourinho is seeking to bring stability and consistency to his defence ahead of the second half of the current campaign.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss was keen to beef up his defence in the summer but a transfer didn’t materialise for any of his centre-back targets.
The Reds Devils were strongly interested in European stars like Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich and Germany, Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid and Uruguay, Harry Maguire of Leicester City and England as well as Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham Hotspur and Belgium.
Failure to sign a new centre-back has proved costly for Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United side.
The Red Devils have conceded 21 goals in just 12 league games and only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League.
With this in mind, Mourinho has identified Skriniar as a top transfer target to boost his defence.
The 23-year-old Slovakian international has impressed for his Inter Milan side in this campaign.
