Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has specially requested for the signing of highly-rated Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly ahead of the upcoming transfer window in January.
This is according to the publication from a popular English media platform Metro.
It was further revealed that the Portuguese tactician is keen to strengthen his defence and has identified the 27-year-old has his top defensive transfer target.
Senegalese international centre-back Koulibaly is rated at around £88m and he’s almost certain to break the transfer record for a defender if he swaps Italy for the Premier League.
Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk holds the record at the moment after he joined the Reds in a £75m deal from fellow Premier League side Southampton during the penultimate transfer window in January.
Koulibaly was recently part of the Senegal squad that impressed at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia but were eliminated in the group stage as a result of their disciplinary record.
He would be a fantastic addition to an ailing Manchester United defence.
The Red Devils rearguard has been a shadow of itself after conceding an outrageous 21 goals in just 12 league games.
In addition, the Manchester United defence has been able to keep just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season.
