It has been revealed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and not Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez.
This is according to a report from The Times via caughtoffside.
The publication further claimed that Mourinho and Manchester United tried everything to prise Croatian World Cup star Ivan Perisic from Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan but they were unsuccessful in their bid.
Perisic, 29, played a key role for the Croatians in their run to the World Cup final.
Croatia surprised many by reaching the final of this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were beaten 4-2 by eventual champions France in their final meeting in Moscow in July.
The Red Devils had to settle for Chilean international forward Alexis Sanchez whom they managed to sign him ahead of city rivals, Manchester City.
He penned a four-and-a-half-year deal until the end of the 2021/22 season with a reported salary of around £500,000 on a weekly basis.
The Chilean international forward has failed to live up to his expensive price tag since he teamed up with the Red Devils in a swap deal from the Gunners in January.
He has found the back of the net on four occasions only.
