Arsenal were beaten to the Europa League title by Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the last campaign and the same feat could repeat itself off the pitch.

The Gunners were eliminated by Atletico in the semifinals via a 2-1 aggregate loss.

According to a report from 101greatgoals, Arsenal are facing the threat of Atletico Madrid in the bid to sign highly rated Brazilian midfielder Ramires.

The report cited the statement credited to UOL journalist Paulo Vinicius Coelho.

Ramires, Eric dos Santos Rodrigues, rose to prominence this season after breaking into the first team of Brazilian club Bahia.

The 18-year-old has already featured for Bahia on eleven occasions.

It was also revealed that he wears the jersey number six at the club.

The Brazilian has already been watched both by scouts from Arsenal and their nemesis Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal scouts have watched him in action six times, while Atletico Madrid scouts have seen him in action twice.

The Gunners strengthened their midfield options in the summer with the signing of young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira.

Both players have impressed for the North Londoners in this campaign and have contributed immensely to the recent run of fourteen games without defeat in all competitions.
