Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan have reportedly emerged as a strong contender in the race to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
According to the report from Tuttosport via thesportsmole, the former European champions are keen to capitalise on the Frenchman’s contractual situation at the club.
The report further claimed that Inter Milan are the overwhelming favourites for the 22-year-old if he’s not interested in extending his contract at Old Trafford.
Martial has less than a year left on his current deal with the Red Devils though the club reserve the right to activate the clause of an additional year in his contract.
The clause of an additional year would take his Manchester United contract till the end of the 2019/20 season.
The French international star has been in sensational form for Manchester United for the better part of a month.
He has scored 48 times for the former Premier League winners in his 148 appearances, including an impressive run of five goals in his last four league outings.
Martial started the run with a goal in the Red Devils’ 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Matchday 8 and it extended to last weekend’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
