North London giants Arsenal have reportedly opened discussion with Italian champions Juventus over a deal for experienced defender Mehdi Benatia.
According to the report from TuttoMercatoWeb (TMW) via thesportswitness, the Moroccan international defender could join the Gunners when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The North Londoners are ready to spend as much as €15m to secure his transfer from Juventus.
The 31-year-old has endured a frustrating start to the new season following the arrival of Italian international defender Leonardo Bonucci from rivals AC Milan during the summer’s transfer window.
Mehdi Benatia joined the Italians from German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2017 in a deal reported to be around €17m.
The Moroccan international centre back was signed as a replacement for the aforementioned Bonucci who left the club for AC Milan in the same summer.
The Italian is back at the Juventus Stadium after one season and has reclaimed his centre back spot thus pushing Benatia down the pecking order.
Benatia has played second fiddle to the defensive partnership of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.
He’s said to be fed up with a lack of game time thus fuelling rumours of a move to the Premier League with Arsenal.
