Nigeria star striker Victor Osimhen can’t stop scoring as he found the back of the net for his Belgian side Sporting Charleroi in their 2-1 defeat to Gent on Friday.
The youngster started the game but could do nothing to prevent his team from conceding the first goal of the game as Giorgi Chakvetadze put the ball past Charleroi’s goaltender in just six minutes into the game.
Charleroi equalized before halftime thanks to Osimhen’s 25-yard shot which took a slight deflection before finding its way into the net.
However, the former U17 world cup golden ball winner couldn’t add to his tally for the night and his team eventually lost to the Jupiler League giants.
Gent restored their lead in the 48th minute through a wonderful solo goal from Giorgi Chakvetadze.
As a result of yesterday’s defeat, Charleroi now occupies the 8th position and they must start winning games to ensure they avoid relegation at the end of this campaign.
Other Nigerians who were involved in the clash include Taiwo Awoniyi and Anderson Esiti who both featured for Gent.
Awoniyi, who is on loan from Liverpool, was a second-half substitute. He was introduced into the game with nine minutes left on the clock.
Anderson Esiti, who has played just one game for the Super Eagles of Nigeria under Genort Rohr, featured for the whole duration of the game.
The defensive midfielder was lively throughout the encounter and would be happy with the final result.
As for Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker now has six goals in six matches and he would be hoping the goals are enough to convince Rohr to hand him a re-call to the national team ahead of South Africa’s game next month.
