Arsenal Handed Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Europa League Clash
Premier League giants Arsenal have received a double injury boost ahead of their Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon following the news that the experienced duo of Petr Cech and Sokratis Papasthathopoulos have returned to full training.
Sporting Lisbon will play host to the Gunners in a Matchday 3 game on Thursday and the aforementioned Arsenal players are expected to feature after recovering from their respective injuries.
Retired Czech Republic international Cech has been out with a hamstring injury for the better part of the last month.
The former Chelsea shot-stopper started the season in the starting XI until when he suffered the hamstring problem during the Premier League Matchday 6 meeting with Watford.
He was replaced by Bernd Leno on the stroke of halftime as Arsenal secured a 2 – 0 win over their London rivals to record a fifth successive league win.
Craig Cathcart (own goal) and Mesut Ozil were on target for the Gunners.
Sokratis Papasthathopoulos was the only casualty of the recently concluded international break for the Gunners after he sustained an ankle injury in Greece’s 2 – 0 away loss to Finland in their UEFA Nations League clash.
Ahead of Monday night’s win over Leicester City, Unai Emery had just two senior centre backs to call on but the return of Sokratis will definitely give the Spaniard more options to choose from for the Sporting Lisbon game.
