New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed the Gunners star he came close to signing while he was the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) boss.
The Spaniard disclosed that in-form Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette was a transfer target for the French champions.
Unai Emery spoke about the French international star ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League meeting with Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.
He also said that a potential transfer for Lacazette was a difficult proposition due to the fact that it’s always difficult for Lyon players to move to PSG and vice-versa.
Alexandre Lacazette went on to join the Gunners from French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon last summer in a club-record deal worth at least £46.5m after his move to Spanish La Liga side fell through.
He scored within three minutes of his debut as he helped the North Londoners to a 4-3 home victory over Monday’s opponents, Leicester City, on the opening day of last season’s Premier League campaign.
Lacazette went on to score eight goals in 15 games at the start of his Arsenal career before a barren run of just one goal in 13 games.
His upturn in form has coincided with the arrival of Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and both players have forged a solid partnership off and on the pitch.
Alexandre has scored 14 goals in his last 24 appearances for Arsenal.
