2018 World Cup hosts Russia have boosted their promotion hopes in League two group three of the UEFA Nations League following their 2-0 win over Turkey at home.
The Russians have maintained top form since they hosted the World Cup tournament.
Russia were one of the surprise packages at this summer’s World Cup after reaching the quarterfinals before losing to eventual finalists Croatia via penalties.
Stanislav Cherchesov and his players were the fourth-ranked team in Group A at the tournament but managed to finish in the second spot comfortably behind group leaders Uruguay.
Russia went on to beat tournament favourites Spain in the first knockout stage on penalties after both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time and extra time before suffering a similar fate against the Croatians.
The Russians have carried the form into UEFA Nations League with the latest win coming against Turkey.
Roman Neustaedter gave Russia a 20th-minute lead before World Cup star Denis Cheryshev added a second goal with twelve minutes left off an assist from Aleksandar Golovin to wrap up the points for his side.
With the win, Russia (seven points) are now four points clear of their opponents Turkey (three points) after three games, while the other group recipient Sweden (one point).
