Three Bayern Munich players have been singled out in Germany after the four-time world champions were humiliated 3-0 by the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League clash at the Johan Cryuff Stadium in Amsterdam.
The Bayern trio of Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller were heavily criticised in the German media after the shock defeat.
The centre back duo of Hummels and Boateng featured from start to finish, while Muller was replaced by Manchester City winger Leroy Sane just before the hour mark.
Germany head coach Joachim Low was also chastised for his continued decision to field players from the 2014 FIFA World Cup title-winning squad.
The defeat against the Netherlands was the fifth of 2018 for the Germans and it’s their worst run since 1985.
The five defeats include two Group F losses against Mexico and South Korea at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia which ultimately led to their stunning elimination at the group stage.
Ronald Koeman and the Netherlands had a game plan against the Germans on Saturday night and it was perfectly executed as goals from Virgil Van Dijk, Memphis Depay and Giorginio Wijnaldum secured a 3-0 win for the first victory over the Germans in almost two decades (since 2000).
