Dutch forward Memphis Depay showed Manchester United what they have been missing after he produced a MotM (Man of the Match) performance in his side’s 3-0 win over Germany at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in Amsterdam.
The 24-year-old signed for Manchester United from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2015 for a reported £25m and his signing attracted optimism on the part of Manchester United fans.
Memphis failed to live up to the hype at Old Trafford and he finally ended his Manchester United misery when he secured a multi-million pounds move to French Ligue 1 for a fee believed to be around £17m.
The attacker has rediscovered his form in the colours of both Lyon and the Dutch national team.
He was on target on Saturday and helped his Dutch secure a first victory over German in 16 years.
He finished from close range for the Dutch team after Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk gave the team a 1-0 lead before Depay extended the advantage to 2-0 after 87 minutes.
Another Reds player Giorginio Wijnaldum made the win a comprehensive one after netting a third goal for the Netherlands in added time.
It was the Netherlands’ first victory over the Germans for almost two decades (since 2002).
