Arsenal have been handed an early North London Derby boost after key Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertoghen was ruled out of action until December.
The Belgian international centre back sustained a hamstring injury during his club’s 2-0 away win over Huddersfield Town in a Premier League Matchday 7 clash played at the John Smith Stadium on September 29.
Tottenham had earlier revealed that the defender would be monitored over the next 12 days shortly after he sustained the injury.
A club statement released on Thursday has now confirmed that the former Ajax Amsterdam defender will miss the next two months with the injury.
Vertoghen will now miss Champions League games against Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven and Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan as well as upcoming Premier League games against West Ham United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
He’s also a big doubt for the North London Derby clash with Arsenal in the Premier League and the Champions League clash with Spanish champions Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Both matches are expected to take place in December.
The injury to Jan Vertoghen is a big blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s ambition of challenging teams like champions Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea for the Premier League title.
