Van Dijk

Holland manager Ronald Koeman has stated that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is not good enough and need to improve.

The former Everton boss made reference to his side’s game against France where van Dijk’s error ensured Olivier Giroud’s goal in Paris last month.

Koeman said he knows the weakness of the Liverpool defender and has told him how much he needs to improve in his game especially as he gets little laid back in most cases.

He noted that a defender should at certain situations be not more than 3 feet away from a striker he is marking but laments that Van Dijk usually falls short of that.

Koeman will also not forget the error made by the same 27-year-old defender which resulted in a penalty against Liverpool when they clashed with Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League.

That mistake would have cost Van Dijk’s Liverpool only to be saved by Mahrez who missed the goal from the spot.

The Holland national team manager however stated that the player still has a chance to play under him but must do well to improve in his tackle so as to save his team and not to cost them.
