Arsenal legend Robert Pires has been impressed with the club’s new signing Lucas Torreira in the wake of his excellent performances for the Gunners this season.
Uruguay international midfielder Torreira signed for Arsenal during this summer’s transfer window after the Gunners paid a princely sum of £26m for his services.
Robert Pires spoke about the former Pescara midfielder in a recent interview monitored on Sky Sports as he called Torreira a ‘warrior’ adding that he’s the kind of quality the North London giants need.
Lucas Torreira was part of the Uruguay squad that reached the quarterfinals at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia and that delayed his resumption at new club Arsenal.
He came on as a substitute in all of the Gunners’ first five league games of the new season as Arsenal struggled for defensive stability without him in the starting lineup.
The North Londoners failed to keep a clean sheet in the those five Premier League games.
He made his first league start against Everton and the defensive midfielder helped the Gunners keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory before another shutout followed in the 2-0 London Derby win over Watford in the last league game on Saturday.
The Watford victory was the Gunners’ fifth successive league win in the Premier League as well as the seventh win in all competitions.
