North London giants Arsenal maintained their perfect start to this season’s Europa League following the 3-0 win over Qarabag FC of Azerbaijan on Thursday night.
The Gunners went into Matchday 2 clash as overwhelming favourites and they lived up to that tag as early as the fifth minute when summer signing Sokratis Papasthathopoulos scored his first goal for Arsenal since his move from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
The Greek international centre-back gave Arsenal the lead off a Mohamed ElNeny’s corner kick.
The visitors kept that advantage until the halftime interval.
Unai Emery’s men started the second half just like they did the first and they were rewarded in the 53rd minute when highly rated young midfielder doubled the Gunners lead after good work from Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi.
It was the English youngster’s first goal for Arsenal and he’s the first Gunners goalscorer born after the year 2000.
The North Londoners wrapped up the win with ten minutes left on the clock when substitute Alexandre Lacazette teed up French pal Matteo Guendouzi for the third goal.
It was the young midfielder’s first goal since he became a Gunner in the summer following his transfer from French Ligue 2 side Lorient.
Arsenal thereafter close out the game to make it eight straight victories.
