England international forward Danny Welbeck is on the verge of leaving Arsenal after the Gunners failed to offer him a new contract.
Welbeck, 27, has an Arsenal contract that runs until the end of this season and the club has not initiated talks of a new one.
This means that he could leave the Emirates Stadium for a sizeable transfer fee during the next transfer window in January or on a free transfer next summer.
In addition, Danny Welbeck is free to talk with foreign clubs about a possible free transfer move as from January 2018.
His contract mirrors that of teammate Aaron Ramsey who also has less than a year on his contract with the Gunners.
In the case of Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal initiated contract talks and gave him an offer but the inability to reach a positive conclusion on the part of both parties led to the withdrawal of the said offer.
Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck in a £16m deal from rivals Manchester United but two serious injuries affected his development under former manager Arsene Wenger.
He has found form in the early part of this season under the new management of Spanish tactician Unai Emery and is the club’s joint leading goalscorer with four goals.
