North London giants Arsenal have reportedly withdrawn their contract offer for Welsh international midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
According to the report from popular news outlet Daily Star, the move was prompted by the player’s high financial demands.
Arsenal and Aaron Ramsey have been in contract talks for months with his current deal expected to run out by next summer.
The former Cardiff City midfielder has less than a year left on his current contract and could start talking to foreign clubs about a potential free transfer as from the 1st of January.
Daily Star claims that the Gunners offered to double his present salary but the 55-cap Welsh star was holding out for the same weekly wage as the club’s top earner, Mesut Ozil (£350,000), and this led to a breakdown in contract talks.
The latest development means Arsenal have to decide whether to sell him in exchange for a moderate transfer fee or risk losing him for free next summer.
Aaron Ramsey has previously been linked with moves to other European clubs and the Gunners’ contract withdrawal would only fuel more transfer talks.
He has been linked with the Premier League duo of Manchester United and Chelsea as well as the Italian Serie A duo of Lazio and Juventus.
