Four of Manchester United’s players are in the last year of their respective contracts with the club but Mourinho is set to extend their deal before the end of the season so as to prevents them from leaving as a free agent.

Luke Shaw, who has rejuvenated his United career since the start of the season, will see his contract expires in April next year.

However, Mourinho — who publicly criticised England’s fullback throughout last season — has told his employers to renew his contract as he wants to have him around for more seasons.

Speaking on his desire to extend Shaw’s contract, Mourinho said he believes the player’s evolution is good for his team, so, he wants to keep him.

“Luke Shaw’s evolution makes us believe that he is going in the right direction – I want to keep him,” he said

As for David De Gea, Mourinho reaffirmed the Spaniard’s importance to the team and he can’t afford to lose such a magnificent keeper this season.

Ander Herrera is another player whose contract would come to an end by the end of the season.

The Spaniard hasn’t been used regularly by the Portuguese gaffer but Mourinho wants his contract to be renewed before the winter market.

He claimed the player’s character in the dressing room is awesome and he wants him to have a renewed contract with the club.

Juan Mata joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2014 but he reunites with Mourinho — who sold him to United while he was Chelsea manager — three seasons ago.

With some months left in his contract, Mourinho wants to continue working with the Spanish playmaker for another period of time.
