Manchester United were credited with a move for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale during the summer transfer window but the Welshman failed to complete his switch to Old Trafford.

Eduardo India, a sport journalist, revealed this morning that the Red Devils had a €250m bid accepted by their La Liga counterparts but Gareth Bale refused to leave Santiago Bernabeu because he was aware Zinedine Zidane would leave the team soon.

Bale wasn’t rated by the Frenchman, who preferred young striker Asensio ahead of the former Tottenham player, and he didn’t get much game-time throughout last season.

Having heard that the three-time Champions League winner would part way with the Santiago Bernabeu outfits, coupled with speculations surrounding Ronaldo’s future, Bale opted to stay with the Galacticos.

Luckily for Bale, Zidane surprisingly resigned his position as Madrid manager, while Cristiano Ronaldo made his much-speculated switch to Juventus during the summer transfer window, making him the best player to lead the club’s attack alongside Karim Benzema.

Since Ronaldo’s departure, Bale has been in fine goalscoring form and the Los Blancos didn’t look like they are missing their talisman.

As for United, they are yet to hit the ground running so far and they need to start winning matches if they must lay claim for the Premier League title this summer
