Do you still remember Manchester United’s Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic, who is surely Premier League great? I’m certain you still remember the Serbian international.
Vidic was one of the best defenders to have played in the Premier League due to his ability to prevent top strikers from getting past him during his stay in England.
Vidic joined United from Spartak Moscow in 2005 and he was a great addition to Alex Ferguson’s side.
Arsenal were presented huge opportunity to capture the defender but Arsene Wenger turned down the chance as the Frenchman wasn’t convinced with the player’s performances with the Russian club.
According to former Chester player Milosavljevic , who worked as the Gunners chief scout for more than 15 years, he recommended the player to Wenger —having seen him play for Spartak Moscow— but the Frenchman ignored his recommendations.
Milosavljevic revealed that the club’s hierarchy doubted his judgment about the player’s qualities, therefore,,they failed to make any enquiries about Vidic’s availability for a possible switch to the Emirates Stadium.
After the season, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was able to capture the player’s signature and he helped the Scottish manager to many trophies before his retirement.
Having joined the Old Trafford outfits in 2005, Vidic played his first United game in 2006 and he went on to feature in 300 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring 21 goals in the process.
He won 15 major trophies — including FA Cup , Champions League, Club World Cup, League Cup
— before heading to Inter Milan in 2014.
