Former Premier League Champions Manchester United are reportedly chasing after the services of France international defender Lucas Hernandez, that’s according to reports emanating from French football site France football.
The young defender has made two competitive appearances for Atletico Madrid so far this season but his future at the Spanish capital is up in the air as media claim that Mourinho is eyeing a move for his signature in January.
The player joined the Rojiblancos academy at the age of 11 and has since been one of the best players for Diego Simeone side.
Apart from winning the summer World Cup with France in Russia earlier in the year, the 90-capped player helped his club to their first Europa League trophy in recent years when the defeated Marseille to the in May.
His impressive performances with the Spanish giants prompted Atletico’s hierarchy to offer him a new deal which was gladly accepted by the 22-year-old star.
According to the same media, his new deal – which will run till 2024- contains a £72m release clause, should any suitor develop an interest in his signature.
Despite the huge release clause in the deal, Manchester United are set to make an official move for his service as soon as the January transfer market reopens.
Lucas Hernandez has featured in 12 matches for the Les Blues, helping the team to their first World Cup glory in 20 years.
