Alvaro Morata admitted he wanted to leave Chelsea after losing so much form under Conte.
Even though he started well after scoring six goals in seven appearances in the Premier League, alongside a hat-trick against the relegated Stoke, he went on break while nursing a hamstring injury, followed by a back problem then later became Conte’s second choice behind Olivier Giroud.
At the end of the season, the 25-year-old player was linked with a move away from the Blues as he obliged that he was very close to deciding if he would leave his current club to Spain or maybe Italy before the close of the transfer window.
“Last year I wasn’t happy. I started well but at the end it was a disaster,” said Morata.
He also disclosed how confused he was while on the pitch before considering the decision. He has however spoken that he would do everything he could to go to the next level.
Albeit, he denied leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid this summer
“There was never an option to return to Real Madrid this summer,” the No. 29 added.
He’s been given a chance to prove himself during the international break as he was amongst those invited by the current Spanish manager, Luiz Enrique.
Chelsea’s Sarri did not sign any additional striker as the club also reduced the number of striking options after loaning Tammy Abraham to Aston Villa.
It means only Giroud and Morata will register under Sarri’s radar. So far, Giroud has been the second choice as the Spanish player is building up faster under the Italian. Morata has scored just once in the Premier League campaign.
