Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has finally revealed the reason behind his uninspiring form throughout last season as he blames Conte’s tactical approach.
The player had a blistering start to his Chelsea career as he found the back of the net in seven occasions after seven matches.
His impressive goalscoring record was halted by a short-term injury which ruled him out of action for just three weeks.
After returning to action from injury, the Spaniard couldn’t continue from where he stopped as he hardly finds the back of the net in the second half of the season.
He managed to score three goals in 23 matches, making him lost out on Lopetegui’s World Cup squad in May.
According to the player Conte’s “direct” style of play didn’t bring the best out of him. He said the former Chelsea boss wanted his players to protect the ball directly in the air – which wasn’t his playing style.
“The most important thing is the way we play. Last season it was direct balls and for me to protect the ball in the air is not my best quality,” he told Sky Sports.
He was linked with a return to Juventus during the summer window but the 25-year-old rejected the offer from the Scudetto Champions, claiming he wants to justify his price tag under Sarri this season.
After scoring against the Gunners in their 3-2 victory over the Gunners, Morata said he can now play to his best quality because he’s being given the chance to attack the space and run to meet the ball.
“Now I can attack the space, I can play one touch and go in the area for the crosses. It’s better for me,” he admitted.
Giroud Encouraged To Leave Chelsea For More Playing Time
French national team manager Didier Deschamps has encouraged Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud to leave the Premier League club for more playing time.
Didier Deschamps revealed that Giroud is under pressure to keep his place as the central striker in the French team mainly due to his lack of playing time at Chelsea.
He talked about Olivier Giroud during his post-match press conference after the Euro 2020 qualifier between France and Turkey which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Giroud came off the bench to give France a 76th minute lead before Kaan Ayhan secured a point for the visitors in the final minutes of the game.
Didier Deschamps hinted that Giroud will have to leave Chelsea for more playing time if he wants to stay in his starting XI.
Giroud has featured for just 187 minutes for Chelsea this season and Didier Deschamps explained that it was the reason behind him starting just one of the two Euro 2020 qualifiers this month.
He scored the winning goal for France during last week’s slim 1-0 victory at the home of Iceland.
Giroud started that game but he was left out of the XI for the Turkey game on Monday night.
His striker against Turkey makes his three goals in the last four games for France.
Why Giroud Will Leave Chelsea In January Revealed
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has said that he might need to leave the Premier League club in a bid to stay in the French team ahead of the 2020 edition of the European Championship.
Giroud hinted at a Chelsea exit during his latest interview as monitored by popular English news outlet Metro.
According to him, he’s not happy at the lack of playing time at Chelsea under new manager Frank Lampard and that the solution could be to leave the club when the winter transfer window reopens in the New Year.
Giroud spoke ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Turkey which ended in a score draw.
Olivier Giroud came off the bench to give France the lead on 76 minutes thus putting them well on course for qualification to Euro 2020.
The qualification was then halted by a late equaliser from Kaan Ayhan for Turkey who maintained their position as leaders in Group H.
Olivier Giroud has had to endure lack of playing time at Chelsea this season with new manager Frank Lampard turning to younger players to move the club forward.
England international Tammy Abraham has led the line for Chelsea this season and Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi has been his deputy for the larger part of the season with Giroud now the third choice striker.
Chelsea Favourites To Sign 22-Year Man Utd Transfer Target
West London giants Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell ahead of the other interested teams.
Apart from Chelsea, Ben Chilwell is also attracting the interest of Premier League champions Manchester City and Manchester United.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are favourites to sign the aforementioned Leicester City player.
50 million pounds-rated Chilwell still has less than five years left on his Leicester City contract which is scheduled to run out in the summer of 2024.
The England international made his debut for the Three Lions during an international friendly with Switzerland last year.
Ben Chilwell came through the ranks at Leicester City before making his first team debut.
He has represented the Foxes on 96 occasions.
Chelsea have a transfer ban from world football’s governing body FIFA but that has not stopped the Blues from battling the other teams for the English left-back.
The Blues were handed a two-window transfer ban for breaking the rules relating to the signing of underage players.
Chelsea have appealed the ruling and they are hopeful that the ban will be lifted for them to sign players like Ben Chilwell.
They have already served the transfer ban for a transfer window.
