‘Now I Can Attack’ – Chelsea Striker Blames Conte’s Tactics For His Goal Drought

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has finally revealed the reason behind his uninspiring form throughout last season as he blames Conte’s tactical approach.

The player had a blistering start to his Chelsea career as he found the back of the net in seven occasions after seven matches.

His impressive goalscoring record was halted by a short-term injury which ruled him out of action for just three weeks.

After returning to action from injury, the Spaniard couldn’t continue from where he stopped as he hardly finds the back of the net in the second half of the season.

He managed to score three goals in 23 matches, making him lost out on Lopetegui’s World Cup squad in May.

According to the player Conte’s “direct” style of play didn’t bring the best out of him. He said the former Chelsea boss wanted his players to protect the ball directly in the air – which wasn’t his playing style.

“The most important thing is the way we play. Last season it was direct balls and for me to protect the ball in the air is not my best quality,” he told Sky Sports.

He was linked with a return to Juventus during the summer window but the 25-year-old rejected the offer from the Scudetto Champions, claiming he wants to justify his price tag under Sarri this season.

After scoring against the Gunners in their 3-2 victory over the Gunners, Morata said he can now play to his best quality because he’s being given the chance to attack the space and run to meet the ball.

“Now I can attack the space, I can play one touch and go in the area for the crosses. It’s better for me,” he admitted.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has stated that he has no understanding of the term Sarriball.

This is the confusion to the Italian manager who is already enjoying life at the Stamford Bridge.

Sarriball was invented and used to describe the style of possession play by the former Napoli boss who claims not even the fans who often use the word have an understanding of the term.

He admits reading it on the social media and it remains a delight to him seeing that he has made an impact in addition to putting smiles in the faces of the fans.

According to Sarri, it was difficult establishing himself and pattern when he first joined the Stamford Bridge as there was no time available for him to settle down as a result of the World Cup players who came late and the tour to Australia in August.

He admits he had told himself to face the challenge at the West London side when leaving Italy and its already paying off knowing things are already getting better for him.

Chelsea are now title contenders having shoot up to the 2nd position in the League table. The Blues have also gone 8 games in the League without seeing a single defeat.

Krysztof Piatek

Chelsea are reported to now know where they stand in the pursuit of Genoa’s Krysztof Piatek after they were told the price for the player.

The West London side have been told that Piatek will cost within the region of £60 million with his fine form this season.

So far this season, the Polish striker has scored seven times in seven games and has attracted interest from lots of clubs across Europe with Napoli, Tottenham and Liverpool also reported to be seeking for the player’s signature.

Efforts by Italian side Napoli’s Carlo Ancelotti to sign the striker with a fee of £23 million failed on several occasions with the club unwillingly to let the player leave.

Piatek first played at Polish side KS Cracovia last season before he was snapped up by Genoa in the summer at the rate of £4 million.

The Stamford Bridge are making enough efforts to secure a partner for Belgium star player Eden Hazard who is believed to be carrying the club’s burden.

Chelsea have been asked to secure the services of clinical attackers who can score goals with Olivier Giroud, Alvaro Morata not firing as expected from them.

Chelsea are strong title contenders as they are now 3rd on the log with 20 points after 8 league games.

How Antonio Conte’s decision affects Sarri

Antonio Conte

Chelsea are believed to be in fine form and that has earned them the 2nd position in the Premier League table with 20 points.

The Stamford Bridge side are so far unbeaten in the league and are tipped to be title contenders.

Manager Maurizio Sarri has been praised for all of the positives at the club with his new possession style of football which has been adopted by the squad.

Howbeit, Belgium star, Eden Hazard has been on top of it all with his fine form, having scored about 8 goals so far this the season in all competition.

This has become a headache to the Italian manager who has just Hazard as the player who lifts the team with his passes and goals and no other player has risen to his rank.

It would have been a different story entirely if former player Diego Costa had not left the club. No thanks to former manager Antonio Conte who ensured the player leaves the Stamford Bridge.

It was obviously a wrong decision to have been made by the former manager with Chelsea now struggling to score goals.

Strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud are failing to live up to expectations, leaving the burden to Hazard alone to bear and that would a different case should the Spanish striker were to be at the Stamford Bridge.
