Truth Revealed! Chelsea Almost Tabled £118m Offer For Liverpool Target

Nabil Fekir

Chelsea almost make a huge-money offer for Lyon Star Nabil Fekir, who failed to complete his much-speculated switch to the Anfield Stadium, that’s according to reports.

Klopp was believed to be leading the race for his signature but the German tactician pulled out of the deal due to the player’s knee injury as at then.

According to Liverpool Echo, the Reds should have captured the Frenchman’s signature for £53m in June but they didn’t want to take any risk over the player’s recurring knee problem.

Latest report via Goal revealed that the Blues were keen on Fekir’s services in June, but they eventually cooled their interest in him.

The well-known media outlet confirmed that the Blues couldn’t push through their move for his service because they had another midfielder in their transfer wishlist.

They also unveiled that Maurizio Sarri targeted Borussia Dortmund’s winger Christian Pulisic as a replacement to Eden Hazard, who was heavily linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Having seen that the Belgian international is staying at Stamford Bridge, Sarri cooled his interest in the £65m-rated youngster.

However, the Italian manager turned his attention to upgrading his midfield’s setup by making move for Napoli star Jorginho, whom he successfully lured to the West London club before the close of transfer market earlier in the month.

Sarri already making moves to help relieve Hazard

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly making move to relieve Belgium international Eden Hazard of the burden of the team with the purchase of Napoli striker, Insigne Lorenzo.

Chelsea have been warned of placing the responsibility of wins in the club on Hazard, a development that is feared to affect the Blues season.

This fact was admitted by the Belgium star who urged his players to step up their game knowing that the possibility of maintaining his goalscoring form until the end of the season is very unlikely.

Sarri seems to have heeded to the warnings by reportedly making moves to lure his former player to England with claims that the Lorenzo is the best player at the moment in the Serie A.

Lorenzo is in great form and has scored seven goals for Napoli in ten games this season, in all competitions.

Chelsea had made move for the striker before the coming of the Italian boss to the Stamford Bridge and they might be encouraged to make another move knowing there was a good relationship between Sarri and Lorenzo in the Italian club.

Suggestions are that the Italian side will not release the player to Chelsea with the make-believe that their former manager is making moves to ‘steal away’ all of their interesting players.

Why I am happy to have worked with Sarri at Napoli, Dries Mertens

Mertens Dries

Napoli striker Dries Mertens is one of those players who have missed current Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri at the club.

Sarri left the Italian club to the Stamford Bridge at the summer and was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti has been praised by the club for doing a good job especially after he helped defeat inform-Liverpool by a lone goal in the Champions League game this season.

However, Sarri still remains in the heart of the players and is obviously being missed no wonder striker Dries Mertens could not hide it in his words when asked whom he prefers working with between the former and the present managers.

Mertens declined from saying he preferred one to another but the question was already answered from his lines when he said he “had fun” under Sarri.

He added that Sarri’s style of football was “practically written on me” because he had liked, enjoyed and embraced it.

The Napoli striker was quick to say that his comment has nothing to do with the current manager whom he said he gets along with as his manager.

Meanwhile, Mertens said he is happy at Napoli and has not considered any offer from any club, noting he has a contract until June 2020.

Probable Lineup For England vs Spain

England vs Spain

England manager Gareth Southgate will make at least two changes to his starting lineup from the Croatia game when his side travels to Spain to take on Luis Enrique’s team in a UEFA Nations League clash on Monday night.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and Manchester City centre-back John Stones are suspended for the game scheduled to take place at the Estadio Benito Villamarin Stadium in the Seville part of Spain.

Both players picked up their second booking of the competition and will miss the crucial game as a result.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has played very well for the Reds and was one of the best players for England in the last meeting between both sides at the Wembley Stadium last month.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford gave the Three Lions the lead off an assist from club teammate Luke Shaw before first half goals from the Spanish duo of Saul Niguez and Rodrigo overturned the result in Spain’s favour as they held on for the 2-1 advantage.

In the absence of Henderson, in-form Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is likely to take his place in the starting XI.

Spain vs England XI: Jordan Pickford; Kyle Walker, Joe Gomez, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Eric Dier, Ross Barkley, James Maddison; Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane.

Why I am not the best, Eden Hazard

Chelsea star player Eden Hazard has admitted he is not the best player in the world despite praise and claims made by his manager.

Giving reasons for his statement, the Belgium international stated that to be the best player in the world, you have to score the most goals and that might not be the case yet in his case.

Hazard might be Chelsea’s current highest goal scorer this season with 7 Premier League goals scored in 8 games but he has never won the league’s golden boot which limits him from falling in the ranks of the bests.

He, therefore, adds that manager Maurizio Sarri was right to have demanded more improvements in his game especially in the area of goalscoring.

Meanwhile, Hazard revealed that everything about football for the Chelsea’s Italian manager is all about possession, adding that the manager’s style differs from former club coaches, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The Belgium star revealed that Sarri becomes angry if you don’t have the ball in five minutes as he wants the ball to move across all angles on the pitch.

Sarri joined the Blues in the summer from Italian outfit Napoli and has since changed the face of football at the Stamford Bridge with his introduction of possession football.
