Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui began his reign as Real Madrid manager on a sad note as his team were defeated by their Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
The Los Blancos were defeated 4-2 no thanks to Diego Costa’s brace and two goals from Saul and Koke.
Though they responded by scoring two goals via Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, that wasn’t enough to see them avoid defeat against the Rojiblancos.
Having lost his first competitive match since he became Madrid manager, Julen Lopetegui has reignited his interest in Chelsea star Marcos Alonso and he’s set to make a huge-money offer to the Blues for his signature.
The Spaniard was great for the Blues throughout last season and he’s has started from where he stopped this season.
He starred for the Stamford Bridge outfits against Huddersfield last week and that has further increases his chance of leaving the club due to Madrid’s desire to capture him.
Apart from his defensive abilities, the Alonso, who narrowly missed out of Spain world cup squad in May, is a good set-piece taker.
Since the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, the Los Blancos are yet to find a good set-piece taker and Lopetegui will be hoping to fill the void by getting Alonso.
However, Chelsea might fail to release the player this season as he is set to play huge role in Sarri’s team this season.
