Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has finally put to bed the rumours surrounding David Luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge.
According to the manager in his post-match conference, the Brazilian defender is going nowhere this summer as he will play a big role in the team this season.
Luiz, 31, wasn’t rated by Antonio Conte throughout last season as he was dropped from the starting lineup by the Italian manager.
Luiz returned to the Blues starting eleven for the first time in six months against Huddersfield on Saturday and he impressed while carrying out his defensive duties.
Sarri praised the experienced defender and assured him of more game-time as long as he is fit and in good form.
Sarri revealed that the player has a very good character off the pitch and he is needed in the dressing room to help the new signings settle down into the club.
“David has a big future here. He will be useful for us but not just on the pitch. He is also very important in the dressing room. I very much enjoy his attitude when I am working with him.” he said.
Luiz re-joined the Blues from PSG in 2016-17 and he helped the Blues to another Premier League glory before he lost his place in Conte’s team to Christensen, who was strong and reliable throughout the season.
Chelsea started this season on a good note, they would be hoping to maintain the momentum till the end of the season.
Sarri also speaks on Alvaro Morata’s uninspiring form for the Blues. He said the player played one of the best game for the Blues against Huddersfield. He believes the Spaniard would gradually return back to his usual form.
