Sokratis Papasathoupolous

We have listed the goalkeeper who will occupy the starting spot in our top 11 players who moved to the Premier League this summer.

We have also talked on the right-back position. The articles continue below as we list the centre-backs

CB: Sokratis Papastathopoulous (Arsenal)

Arsenal manager Unai Emery replaced Wenger in May and he wasted no time to get down to business.

The Spanish tactician captured Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund for just £16m and the experienced player has brought more stability to the club’s defence.

CB: Alfie Mawson (Fulham)

The youngster was awesome for Swansea throughout last season but it was unfortunate that the Swans were relegated to the Championship.

Alfie Mawson, 20, joined Premier League new boy this summer. The England international will surely be part of the players who determines how long the Cottagers would remain in the country’s top flight League by the end of next season.

Other players that could have been in this position include Fabian Balbuena (West Ham), Jannick Vestergaard (Southampton), Ben Gibson (Burnley), Yerry Mina (Everton).

LB : Diego Rico (Bournemouth)

The last defender in the list is nobody but Diego Rico. The 25-year-old joined the Cherries despite interest from Borussia Dortmund and Spanish side Leganes.

He chose to play for the Eddie Howe’s team because he believes he suits the manager’s tactical discipline.

Segun Amuda

Alex Iwobi

Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi continued his impressive form earlier on Saturday as he helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria thrash Libya 4-0 in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

Iwobi, 22, has started the new season in impressive fashion under new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

The Arsenal Academy graduate has been one of the beneficiaries of the new dispensation under the former Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Valencia and Sevilla boss.

Alex Iwobi struggled with inconsistency under former manager Arsene Wenger but the advent of Unai Emery has seen his form flourish.

Unai Emery had replaced Wenger in the summer after the Frenchman resigned from his post as Arsenal manager thus ending his 22-year reign at the club.

The Spaniard signed a three-year contract until 2021.

Alex Iwobi played the entire duration of the game which saw Chinese-based striker net a hattrick.

The former Watford striker netted the opening goal from the spot as early as the fourth minute after he was fouled in the Libyan box.

He added a second goal on 58 minutes off a sumptuous pass from Iwobi before completing his treble in the 69th minute.

Samuel Kalu scored a fourth goal on the stroke of full-time to make the scoreline a more comprehensive one.

Arsene Wenger

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has had his say on the contract standoff involving Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey and the club.

Wenger spoke about Ramsey and his contractual situation with the Gunners in an interview monitored on popular English news portal Metro adding that the 27-year-old is in a strong position with less than a year left on his Arsenal deal.

The Frenchman further revealed that he tried to sign him to a new contract while he was the Arsenal manager.

Arsene Wenger resigned from his post as Arsenal manager at the end of last season thereby drawing the curtains on his 22-year reign in North London.

During his time at Arsenal, the former AS Monaco and Grampus Eight boss won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cup titles in addition to leading the Gunners to the 2006 Champions League final in Paris.

His 10-man Arsenal side lost 2-1 to Barcelona who came from behind through goals from Samuel Eto’o and Juliano Belletti.

Aaron Ramsey is on his way out of the club after Arsenal decided to withdraw their contract offer to the former Cardiff City player.

He has been linked with a move to other Premier League giants like Manchester United and Chelsea.

Arsenal, Chelsea could do some business in January

Timothy Aiyeku

arsenal vs chelsea

Arsenal and their London rivals could be forced to do some business in the January Transfer window after Ruben Loftus-Cheek has made it clear that he wants to leave the Stamford Bridge.

The player has lacked playing time under manager Maurizio Sarri which he is unable to bear. He might at least, request for a loan move.

Loftus-Cheek’s decision to leave also bothers on the fact that he wants to have a return to the international stage after his successful loan spell at Crystal Palace in the last campaign gave him that opportunity.

Although, it has been reported that Palace will be interested in having the 22-year-old for another loan term but Arsenal are regarded as a strong contender for him.

A call from the North London club will be difficult to reject for Loftus-Cheek knowing the opportunity he will have to play at a bigger stage for the Emirates Stadium sides.

Arsenal are also expected to beat off interest from Everton who are also monitoring the situation to have the player.

However, with Aaron Ramsey seeming to leave the Gunners, there are expectations that Arsenal will push for a move for the player to help serve as a temporal cover for the Wales international.

Thierry Henry

French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have named Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as their new manager.

The announcement was made by the UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaigners earlier on Saturday after the 41-year-old put pen to paper on a contract that will run until June 2021.

The former Arsenal player replaces Portuguese tactician Leonardo Jardim who was sacked following the team’s lacklustre start to the new campaign.

Under his watch, AS Monaco won just one from their 11 games in all competitions this season.

The French Ligue 1 giants are presently in the relegation as they occupy 18th spot on the league table after one win from their nine games.

They have also lost both their Champions League games to Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and German Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Thierry, who is an assistant manager with the Belgium national team, makes a return to his old hunting ground in a managerial capacity.

He spent two years in the club’s youth team before making his Monaco debut in 1994 under his manager at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger.

He spent five hugely successful years with the first team and went on to win the 1996/97 league title.

His managerial bow will be against Racing Strasbourg on Saturday, October 20.
