Liverpool have been urged to make a move for Leicester defender Harry Maguire.
The Englishman stellar displays for both club and country has led to widespread interest from a host of Premiership clubs
Manchester United were understood to be the frontrunners in the battle for his signature but were rebuffed due to his 65 million pounds price tag slapped on him by Leicester
However, the quoted massive figure appears not to have deterred the top guns and it is reported the towering centre-back could make a last-gasp move from the Foxes.
The Reds, in particular, have made a statement of intent by paying the highest figures for a defender and goalkeeper over the past eight months.
And club legend Phil Thompson has urged the Anfield outfit to make a move for Maguire in what he believes would be a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk
Thompson told Sky Sports,
I like what Jurgen Klopp has done by trying to strengthen the players behind the front three and get more goals from that area. That part of the team is where you win titles and Fabinho, Shaqiri and Keita can provide that additional firepower. [Adam] Lallana is also back. With one more centre-back, Liverpool can be a real force; I’d be looking at snatching Harry Maguire from under Manchester United’s noses.
However, it appears highly unlikely the Merseysiders would be keen on paying for another defender having already being well stocked in the department.
Manager Jurgen Klopp seems eager on giving the club’s promising young players a shot having witnessed the remarkable development of Trent Alexander Arnold and Joe Gomez
Teenage sensation Curtis Jones is highly rated by the German manager and would be given a chance to feature prominently for the first team this forthcoming season.
