Chelsea Turn To £89m-rated Goalie As Courtois Replacement

Published

Jan Oblak

Chelsea are yet to confirm if Courtois would be staying at Stamford Bridge or not but Maurizio Sarri is preparing for life without the Belgian shot-stopper.

We reported here earlier today that the Italian manager is hoping to have a lengthy discussion with the goalkeeper to know if he wants to remain under his tutelage or he wants a move to Santiago Bernabeu, where he would be tutored by Jullen Lopetegui in the coming season.

The Los Blancos are on the brink of capturing the goalie’s signature, according to Don Balon last week but nothing is yet to be confirmed by both parties.

Meanwhile, Sarri is reportedly hoping to capture Atletico Madrid’s goalie Jan Oblak as Courtois replacement, should he fail to convince the Belgian to remain at the West London club beyond this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Italian manager is set to trigger Oblak’s release clause so as to get him before the summer window shut down in three days time.

Oblak has been an integral part of Diego Simeone’s side for a long time but he might be told to join the Blues by the club’s hierarchy if Abrahamovic made an interesting offer for the goaltender.

According to the report via the Spanish media, Oblak is in the final year of his contract with the La Liga side and Chelsea are reportedly set to sign him up this week by triggering his  €100m (£89.3m) release clause.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

North London giants Arsenal have reportedly been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of the upcoming transfer window in January.

England international player Loftus-Cheek has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Stamford Bridge and he’s keen on leaving in search of regular football.

His best run in the first team came while he was at fellow London club Crystal Palace.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek spent the last campaign at Selhurst Park on a season-long loan deal from the Blues and he produced several impressive outings for the Eagles.

His form earned him a spot on the England team for this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

He was part of the Three Lions squad that finished fourth under manager Gareth Southgate.

Loftus-Cheek wants to retain his place in the England squad and the only way to play club football regularly hence his decision to seek more first team opportunities.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are interested in signing him on loan when the January transfer window reopens but the Selhurst Park outfit could face competition from London rivals Arsenal.

He could be a replacement for Arsenal contract rebel Aaron Ramsey who’s reportedly on his way out of the club.

Arsenal and their London rivals could be forced to do some business in the January Transfer window after Ruben Loftus-Cheek has made it clear that he wants to leave the Stamford Bridge.

The player has lacked playing time under manager Maurizio Sarri which he is unable to bear. He might at least, request for a loan move.

Loftus-Cheek’s decision to leave also bothers on the fact that he wants to have a return to the international stage after his successful loan spell at Crystal Palace in the last campaign gave him that opportunity.

Although, it has been reported that Palace will be interested in having the 22-year-old for another loan term but Arsenal are regarded as a strong contender for him.

A call from the North London club will be difficult to reject for Loftus-Cheek knowing the opportunity he will have to play at a bigger stage for the Emirates Stadium sides.

Arsenal are also expected to beat off interest from Everton who are also monitoring the situation to have the player.

However, with Aaron Ramsey seeming to leave the Gunners, there are expectations that Arsenal will push for a move for the player to help serve as a temporal cover for the Wales international.
