*Pereira leaves Manchester United on loan*
22-year-old Joel Pereira has joined Vitoria Setubal of Portugal on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
The Portuguese shot-stopper is considered one for the future and as such has been afforded the opportunity to first, hone his craft and play regularly away albeit from Old Trafford.
The promising goalie featured predominantly in the pre-season tour of the English giants in the United States of America most notably starring in the International Champions Cup penalty shootout victory against AC Milan.
The arrival of veteran Lee Grant has further pushed Pereira down the pecking order with David De Gea and Sergio Romero still ahead of him.
Regardless, it is believed that Mourinho is a staunch fan of the youngster as a statement on United’s official website confirming the loan spell reads: “Jose Mourinho is a firm believer in Pereira’s talents and handed him a new contract in 2017 that runs until 2021, with the option of an additional year”.
The former Chelsea boss has also once predicted Pereira to become “the best Portuguese goalkeeper of the next generation”.
If his prediction is to materialise, however, Joel Pereira will need to first prove himself consistently at Mourinho’s hometown club – Setubal.
