Manchester United want £75,000-a-week star more than Harry Maguire

Toby Alderweireld

Manchester United are still interested in luring Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld to Old Trafford despite their growing desire to capture Leicester city defender Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils have been in the race to capture the Belgian international left-back since the winter transfer period but they could not convince their Premier League rivals to release him.

Though the Red Devils are now eager to complete a £65m move for England international centre-back Maguire from the Foxes, Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett believes Mourinho values Alderweireld more than the 25-year-old defender.

“You can’t ignore Alderweireld. I think Mourinho would rather have Alderweireld [than Maguire].” he said

According to the British reporter Sky Sports transfer talk podcast, Alderweireld has proven himself over the years and that has made him the most needed player in Mourinho’s squad.

He revealed that the Portuguese manager is more determined to complete a move for Alderweireld compared to the Leicester city’s defender.

Alderweireld is said to be heading out of the North London club having fallen out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino since last season. He is in the last year of his contract with Tottenham, who are looking to cash in on his signature before the end of the ongoing transfer market.

Mason Mount

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard singled out one player for praise after his team could only manage a draw against Leicester City.

Lampard led Chelsea to a 1-1 draw with Leicester City at home in the Premier League game played on Sunday evening.

After the game, Frank Lampard was full of praise for young Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for his performance against the Foxes.

The Chelsea legend pointed out his quality while he was fielding questions from reporters at his post-match press conference.

Mason Mount has been in very good form for Chelsea since he returned to the club from his loan spell at English Championship club Derby County.

The 20-year-old midfielder played at Derby County for Frank Lampard last season as the Rams got to the Championship playoff final before being beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa who are in the Premier League as a result of that win.

Mason Mount returned to Chelsea from the Derby County loan spell and was one of the best players for the Blues during preseason.

He has continued that form into the new season after the midfielder robbed Leicester City star Wilfried Ndidi to give Chelsea a first-half lead.

Ndidi atoned for his error with a bullet header in the second half thereby earning a 1-1 draw for the Foxes.

Pep Guardiola is said to be angry with winger Leroy Sane over his decision to undergo surgery with another doctor.

Lampard and his Chelsea players drew 1-1 with Leicester City at home to further extend their winless run at the start of the season to three games.

After the Leicester City game, Frank Lampard spoke to the media about the result as he pointed out that his players should have done better against the Foxes.

The Manchester United game ended in a 4-0 defeat in what’s his first match as the new Chelsea manager having been appointed into the job this summer.
