Manchester United manager José Mourinho is reportedly keen on adding a new box-to-box midfielder to his team this summer and he has shown his desire to lure Real Madrid and Croatia player Mateo Kovacic to the Theater of Dreams.

Though the Portuguese tactician has confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fred, who is a world-class attacking midfielder, he is not satisfied with the number of midfielders present in his squad.

Kovacic told reporters before the world cup that he could be moving out of Santiago Bernabeu this summer as long as he would be getting regular action elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports in January, Manchester City also had in the Croatian playmaker as Guardiola is hoping to defend the Premier League title which they won last season.

However, the latest reports from the Etihad Stadium suggest that the Citizens have pulled out of the player’s race after capturing Leicester City’s star Ryad Mahrez on Monday. The Citizens broke their transfer record when they captured the Algerian star in a £60m deal.

Sky Sports now reports that the Red Devils are the only club interested in the former Napoli star and they are on the verge of completing a £80m move For the world cup star.

Real Madrid president Perez has reportedly agreed to accept United’s offer and the Red Devils might announce his signature this week.
