Toby Alderweireld Remains Mourinho’s Prime Target

Manchester United manager José Mourinho is still interested in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld despite signing Diogo Dalot from Porto this month.

The Belgian international is presently surplus to requirements at Wembley due to his unhealthy relationship with Mauricio Pochetino, who is the club’s manager.

The defender was one of the best full-backs in the Premier League two seasons ago but his injury problems played a huge but unwanted role to prevent him from enjoying regular football under the gaffer throughout last season.

With a year left in his contract, the North London club are more than ready to cash-in on his services so as to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Alderweireld, 29, has been a long time target for Mourinho as he was linked with his signature in 2016 when he took over from Ryan as the Red Devils manager.

All his efforts to lure the Belgian star to Old Trafford during the previous window weren’t sufficient to convince Spurs to sanction his move to the Theater of Dreams.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Sport is suggesting that Mourinho is eager to complete his move for the experienced defender, whom he believes would bring more stability and quality to his defensive setup.

Marcos Rojo, Eric Baily, Phil Jones, and Luke Shaw were all far from their best throughout last campaign, so, the Portuguese gaffer can’t wait to capture the £70m-rated player.
