Unai Emery set to sign Hector Herrera after Lucas Torreira’s deal
Having let go of Jack Wilshere in a free transfer earlier in the month, the Gunners are poised to get a new player to serve as his replacement before the start of the 2018-19 season.
Though the club have confirmed the signing of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira, they are not convinced that they now have enough qualities at the centre of the pitch.
As part of adding more qualities to their midfield setup, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has developed an interest in Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to Portuguese media outlet I Jogo last night.
The publication are suggesting that the Gunners will need to increase the pace of their discussion with the Porto’s hierarchy if they must beat Ligue 1 side Lyon to his service.
Lyon are believed to be leading the race for his signature base on the report, via the same source, claiming that Porto are on the verge of agreeing to Lyon’s €30m offer for the Mexican star.
Hector Herrera, 28, has been Porto’s player for five years and that has made him the captain of the Primeira side but he is reportedly set to move on with his career elsewhere.
According to ESPN section in Mexico, the Gunners are ready to lure the defensive midfielder to the Emirates Stadium this summer having seen his exploits for his country at the World Cup in Russia.
Mexico reached the round-16 stages of the world’s greatest football fiesta but couldn’t make it to the next round as they were defeated 2-0 by Brazil.
