Manchester City Join United In The Race To Sign Mateo Kovacic.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola is set to rival Manchester United for Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic, who hasn’t been given much chance to prove his qualities to the Galacticos faithfuls.
The Citizens are yet to get a green light from Serie A side Napoli for Jorginho’s signature and that has made Guardiola turned his attention to Kovacic as ‘plan B’ in case he fail to get his prime target.
The Blues are reportedly leading the chase for Jorginho due to the relationship that exists between the player and their incoming manager Maurizio Sarri.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Premier League Champions — who are yet to sign any player so far this summer — are ready to battle their Premier League rival Manchester United for the Croatia’s 24-year-old striker.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are still keen on his signature this summer as Mourinho wants to provide more firepower to his striking force ahead of the upcoming season.
Despite having Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford in his attacking line, Mourinho is eager to add Kovacic to his team ahead of next season.
Kovacic is with his Croatian teammates, who are preparing for a crunch semi-final tie against the Three Lions of England on Thursday.
The player has featured in four matches for the European country at the tournament , though, three of those came from the substitute bench.
He played just 17 matches with the Los Blancos in all competitions throughout last season.
