How Will Mourinho Tweak His Formation To Include Fred And Diogo Dalot Next Season

Published

on

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United manager José Mourinho will surely have a slight headache while making his starting lineup next season due to the addition he made to his team.

The Portuguese manager completed the signing of two young players – Fred and Diogo Dalot from Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto respectively last month. He is expected to feature these players regularly in the coming season due to the huge price he paid on their signature.

With Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia becoming too old to withstand the physical-demanding nature of wing-backs, José Mourinho seems to have no other options but to deploy his two recruits in the position played by his trusted and experienced players during the previous campaign.

Let quickly predict how Mourinho will integrate Fred and Diogo Dalot in his tactical approach to games during the 2018-19 season.

Diogo Dalot

The youngster could be made to sit on the bench for the main time while learning his craft from Antonio Valencia at the right-back position of the pitch.

However, the 19-year-old might be given the opportunity to play ahead of Valencia after some games. His performance would determine if he is mature and ripe enough to make the right-back position his own.

The youngster could also be deployed as a left-back or left wing-back by Jose Mourinho, considering his pace and tactical awareness.

Fred

The €52.5m-rated midfielder will definitely be a regular starter in Mourinho’s team, as long as he maintains consistent performances.

He would be given a role at the middle of the pitch where he would partner with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in a 3-man midfielder setup.

He could feature a defensive midfielder alongside Matic. He can also operate as a playmaker while Paul Pogba shifts back to provide a covering for the defenders, according to Mourinho’s tactical approach to games.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has narrated how they ignored the warning from manager Frank Lampard during the halftime of their Premier League clash with Leicester City.

Azpilicueta told reporters about the halftime warning ignored by the Chelsea players shortly after the game.

According to him, Frank Lampard told the players that they needed a second goal to secure the points in the home game against the Foxes.

Chelsea had a one-nil lead at halftime courtesy young English midfielder Mason Mount after the former Derby County loanee dispossessed Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to fire the ball past Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

It was a magical moment for Mason Mount who scored on his home debut for his boyhood club.

Leicester City equalized in the second half through a bullet header from the aforementioned Ndidi who atoned for his error in the first half.

The header from Super Eagles star Ndidi was enough to earn Leicester City a point from the game.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Chelsea are still waiting for their first win of the season after three games.

Their next game is the league visit to newly promoted outfit Norwich City who won their first game of the season via the 3-1 win over Newcastle United at the weekend.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has had his say on the disappointing draw at home to Leicester City.

Lampard and his Chelsea players drew 1-1 with Leicester City at home to further extend their winless run at the start of the season to three games.

After the Leicester City game, Frank Lampard spoke to the media about the result as he pointed out that his players should have done better against the Foxes.

Lack of game management was responsible for the disappointing result according to ex-Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

The Blues legend also said that his team played well for the first 25 minutes and that it should be the blueprint for the rest of the season unlike the final 65 minutes of the game.
