Liverpool have finally added a new player to their squad at the ongoing transfer window.
The Reds have officially unveiled RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita today after series of drama from the Bundesliga side, who were reluctant to let go of the highly-rated midfielder.
It was reported the Merseyside club had initially agreed to terms and conditions with their Bundesliga counterparts for his signature since last summer but they couldn’t get him during last winter transfer period due to Leipzig’s desire to hold on to the player until today.
Though the Guinean international hasn’t switch finally to the Anfield stadium, it is confirmed that he would be wearing jersey number 8 in the upcoming season.
Number 8 jersey was the jersey worn by iconic Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard during his active days as a footballer and much would be expected from the young midfielder to live up to his billings when next season begins proper.
The player is now expected to link up with his Liverpool teammates at the Anfield stadium on the first of July so as to begin training ahead of the club’s pre-season tour where they are expected to play against Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United.
£62m-rated Naby Keita couldn’t hide his gladness as he speaks on the reason why he chose the Merseyside club ahead of other offers he received.
According to him, Liverpool striker Sadio Mane was influential in his decision to accept Liverpool’s offer.
“I chose Liverpool because it is a team I watched often – and I also spoke a lot about it with Sadio [Mane]. He told me a lot about the team and the club.” the player revealed to Liverpool’s official website.
