Having missed out on Nabil Fekir’s signature earlier in the month, Liverpool once again set to miss out another star player according to reports from Spain.
The Reds have shown an interest in Stoke city’s forward Shaqiri as Klopp hopes to bolster his attacking flare ahead of the upcoming season but they might fail to complete the player’s signature due to recent reports that claimed Barcelona’s desire to lure the Switzerland international to Camp Nou this summer.
According to a well-known Spanish media publication Don Balon, the La Liga Champions are willing to return to their usual blistering form in European competition next season after recording an uninspiring outing in the UEFA Champions League competition last season.
Ernesto Valverde is set to rival the Merseyside club for the physical-imposing striker this summer so as to provide depth and strength to his team in the upcoming season.
Shaqiri was awesome for the Potters last season but his lively performances and goals weren’t enough to save the team from relegation.
With Stoke City’s relegation to the Championship next season, the 31-year-old striker is ready to move to another club where he would get regular first-team actions in one of the best Leagues in Europe.
The Reds have made official bid to get the striker but it’s yet to been known the price tag that would be placed on his signature by the Potters.
Giroud Encouraged To Leave Chelsea For More Playing Time
French national team manager Didier Deschamps has encouraged Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud to leave the Premier League club for more playing time.
Didier Deschamps revealed that Giroud is under pressure to keep his place as the central striker in the French team mainly due to his lack of playing time at Chelsea.
He talked about Olivier Giroud during his post-match press conference after the Euro 2020 qualifier between France and Turkey which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Giroud came off the bench to give France a 76th minute lead before Kaan Ayhan secured a point for the visitors in the final minutes of the game.
Didier Deschamps hinted that Giroud will have to leave Chelsea for more playing time if he wants to stay in his starting XI.
Giroud has featured for just 187 minutes for Chelsea this season and Didier Deschamps explained that it was the reason behind him starting just one of the two Euro 2020 qualifiers this month.
He scored the winning goal for France during last week’s slim 1-0 victory at the home of Iceland.
Giroud started that game but he was left out of the XI for the Turkey game on Monday night.
His striker against Turkey makes his three goals in the last four games for France.
Ex-Man Utd Stars On Target In Friendly Win
Former Manchester United defenders Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair were on target for Northern Ireland in their international friendly win over Czech Republic in Prague on Monday evening.
The ex-Manchester United stars scored the goals in the first half of the game.
Middlesbrough player Paddy McNair gave Northern Ireland the lead away from home on nine minutes before Leicester City centre back Jonny Evans added a second goal from close range midway into the first half.
Paddy McNair completed his brace and a third goal for Northern Ireland in the 40th minute to complete a remarkable first half performance for his team.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill and his players were three goals up at the halftime interval.
They were pegged back by their hosts in quick succession midway into the second half through Vladimir Darida and Alex Kral.
The Czech Republic goals came within one minute as they set up a grandstand finish which saw Northern Ireland emerge unscathed to secure a slim 3-2 win over the Czechs for their first friendly victory away from home in 13 years.
Northern Ireland were able to recover from the late heartbreak against the Netherlands in their Euro 2020 qualifier held in Amsterdam last week.
Why Giroud Will Leave Chelsea In January Revealed
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has said that he might need to leave the Premier League club in a bid to stay in the French team ahead of the 2020 edition of the European Championship.
Giroud hinted at a Chelsea exit during his latest interview as monitored by popular English news outlet Metro.
According to him, he’s not happy at the lack of playing time at Chelsea under new manager Frank Lampard and that the solution could be to leave the club when the winter transfer window reopens in the New Year.
Giroud spoke ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Turkey which ended in a score draw.
Olivier Giroud came off the bench to give France the lead on 76 minutes thus putting them well on course for qualification to Euro 2020.
The qualification was then halted by a late equaliser from Kaan Ayhan for Turkey who maintained their position as leaders in Group H.
Olivier Giroud has had to endure lack of playing time at Chelsea this season with new manager Frank Lampard turning to younger players to move the club forward.
England international Tammy Abraham has led the line for Chelsea this season and Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi has been his deputy for the larger part of the season with Giroud now the third choice striker.
