It is believed that Chelsea are still interested in hiring Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte’s replacement.
Though reports which emanated from Italy last month suggested that the Blues had turned their attention to Laurent Blanc after Sarri’s controversy with Italian FA, Roman Abramovich has reignited his desire to work with the former Napoli boss.
However, reports claim that Sarri will be keen on reinforcing the team’s defensive setup ahead of next season. The Blues were far from convincing during last season, Gary Cahill didn’t look like his usual self while ever-reliable midfielder N’Golo Kante failed to impress in his second season at Stamford Bridge.
According to Calciomercato, the 59-year-old manager is reportedly keen on adding Raul Albiol and Daniele Rugani to the Blues’ team as part of his reinforcing process.
Raul Albiol, 32, presently plays for Napoli as a center-back. The former Real Madrid star still has a contract with the Serie A gaints but Sarri is said to trigger his release clause which is believed to be €6m.
Rugani is another defender who could be poached by the Italian manager before the close of the ongoing transfer window, according to the Italian media outlet.
The Italian defender made 33 Serie A appearances for the Scuddeto Champions throughout last season.
Sarri and Rugani had worked together during their time at Empoli and that is going to play a huge role in luring the defender to West London.
