Manchester United are keen on Tottenham’s defender Toby Alderweireld in the summer despite the arrival of Fred from Shaktar Donetsk earlier in the week.
Fred was the first player signed by the Old Trafford outfits in the ongoing transfer period and Mourinho is hoping to make more signings before the close of the transfer market.
The Portuguese manager is Alderweireld’s longtime admirer but has failed to acquire his services despite numerous official approaches towards capturing.
However, Mourinho is reportedly ready to reignite interest in the Belgian player but the Telegraph claims that Tottenham are asking too much for his signature.
According to the Telegraph, the North London Club have placed a £55m price tag on his signature but it remains unknown if Mourinho will still push on with his desire to capture the 29-year-old defender for such an outrageous amount.
Though Alderweireld is a player whose qualities are never in doubt, his fitness level will be another major concern for the former Real Madrid boss base on the fact that he is an injury – prone defender.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochetino failed to use him regularly during the previous season and that has led to the club’s desire to cash-in on his signature.
Meanwhile, Tottenham hierarchy are still hoping to beat Arsenal and Chelsea to United’s striker Anthony Martial.
The Frenchman is a target for numerous clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus.
With United’s growing interest in Alderweireld, both clubs could decide to engage in a swap-deal which would see both players swap clubs in the summer.
