Manchester United manager José Mourinho remains keen on reuniting with his former player Raphael Varane in the summer as he finds a long-term solution to his defense ahead of next season.
The 25-year-old Frenchman is one of the best defenders in La Liga this season with lots of impressive displays for the Los Blancos, though they were made to pay off their lackadaisical display at the final third of the pitch by Barcelona, who snatched the La Liga trophy from the team.
According to Daily Express via Spanish media outlet Don Balon, United have shown intense desire to work with the Frenchman and they have made an official approach towards luring him to Old Trafford after the summer World Cup.
Varane was brought to Santiago Bernabeu by José Mourinho in 2013 as a young player and the same manager gave him the opportunity to break to his starting lineup before he made his return back to Chelsea for the second time in his career.
There seems to be a perfect and cordial relationship between Mourinho and Varane, that will surely play a huge role in convincing the player to join the Portuguese tactician at the theatre of dreams.
However, Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing and ready to prevent any deal from materializing in the summer as he is not set to lose one of his best players in the summer.
Should Mourinho succeeded in his plans to get Varane, the Frenchman would surely form a formidable partnership with Eric Bailly at the heart of United’s defense next season.
