Chelsea have reportedly shown their desire to capture Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Jaserp Cillessen, who is being monitored by Arsenal for a very long time.
The Gunners’ defensive ability were nothing to write home about during the previous season due to uninspiring performances from Petr Cech.
The Czech international was not in his best form throughout last season while David Ospina, who looked a bit better, wasn’t given much chance to man the post for the Gunners.
As a way to solve their goalkeeping crisis, Arsenal sporting director Sven Mislintant has made an official approach to capture Barcelona’s goalkeeper Jaserp Cillessen in the summer.
However, they will have slug it out with Chelsea who are reportedly set to block the Gunners move for the Holland international.
According to Sport, the Blues have set their eyes on the goalie as capable replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who could be heading to La Liga in the summer.
Cillessen still has two years left in his contract but the Blues are prepared to trigger his €60m release clause, according to the same source.
The Holland international made 11 appearances for the Catalans during the previous season. He was ever-present in the team’s unbeaten run to the Copa Del Rey title, but he wasn’t used regularly in League matches as Valverde preferred Ter Stegen in his starting lineup.
It remains unknown if Chelsea or Arsenal would want to pay €60m to capture his signature in the summer.
