Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Stoke City’s goalie Jack Butland in the summer.
It was reported here last night that the England international netminder is one of Jurgen Klopp’s targets in the summer as he hopes to find a long-lasting solution to his goalkeeping department ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Simon Mignolet, who has been the Reds first-choice goalkeeper for a long time was surprisingly pushed to the bench by Klopp, who prefers Loris Karius in his starting lineup ahead of the Belgian.
The experienced goalie is reportedly set to end his time at Anfield Stadium this summer, despite having two years to play in his contract with the club.
Though Loris Karius was impressive in the first period of last season, his performance during the latter stage of the season was nothing to write home about. The most unforgivable error was against Real Madrid in the Champions League final game in Kiev.
The goalkeeper was guilty of two of the three goals conceded by the Merseyside club. Loris mistakes during the game has awakened Klopp to the truth that there is a need to get more experienced and reliable netminder before the start of next season.
Klopp is hoping the Reds capture Butland’s signature from Stoke City, who were relegated to the Championship side.
While predicting Liverpool’s chances of getting Butland, bookmakers Coral – via its spokesman – suggest that Liverpool will end up as Butland’s next destination despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
“It looks inevitable thatJack Butland is going to leave Stoke this summer and judging by the number of bets we have taken this morning on Liverpool being his next club, it suggests to us that Jurgen Klopp may have identified his new ‘keeper.” he revealed.
