Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still in search of a quality goalkeeper, having seen how Karius’ errors cost him the UEFA Champions League trophy against Real Madrid last week.
The German manager has been linked with numerous goalies including Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Roma’s Alisson and Stoke City’s Jack Butland in the summer.
However, reports suggest that the Reds are closing on Atletico Madrid’s goaltender Jan Oblak as they are in advanced talks with the Spanish Capital club.
Despite his €100m release-clause, Klopp has advised his employers to get the goalkeeper when the summer transfer window begins so as to access him during the club’s pre-season tour.
Arsenal are also eyeing a move for Oblak’s signature after Cech’s uninspiring performances throughout last campaign.
Unlike Cech and Karius, Oblak has been phenomenal for the Spanish giants since he moved to the Diego Simeone’s side. He was awesome in Atletico’s impressive run to Europa League glory last season.
It remains unknown who would finally end up signing the impressive Slovenia international in the summer but according to Sky Bet, Liverpool are leading the race for his services.
In other Liverpool news, Jurgen Klopp remains adamant to let go of Mohammed Salah despite the player’s decision to end his stay at Anfield Stadium, according to the Mirror.
The Mirror reported on Monday that the 44-goal hero told his agent to negotiate with Real Madrid over a possible switch to Santiago Bernabeu next season.
The same journal now reports that the Reds boss won’t release his proven goalscorer irrespective of the money involved.
