Liverpool have encountered a huge setback in their chase after Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi as Atletico develop interest in the Argentine forward.
It should be recalled that Spanish media outlet Don Balon earlier reported that the Reds are targeting a move for the striker as part of their preparation for life without Mohammed Salah, who is reportedly set to move to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
Despite the Amazzuri’s not-too-impressive form this season, Icardi was a shining light as he scored 28 goals in just 33 matches in all competitions.
As result of his awesome goalscoring feat, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is eyeing a possible move to capture Icardi’ s signature ahead of the Merseyside club.
Don Balon are reporting that Diego Simeone is uncertain over Antoine Griezmann future at the Spanish Capital due to growing interest from Manchester United and rival Barcelona. He is, therefore, aiming to sign the Argentine as a replacement for the want-away Frenchman in the summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp still remains reluctant to let go of Mohammed Salah this summer, claiming the Egyptian still has a great future ahead of him at Anfield Stadium.
The Egyptian player, who broke the Premier League goalscoring record on the final day of the season, still has four years left in his contract with the Reds and he wants to end his deal with the club.
